Playroom organization

If your children have grandparents anything like mine, you have A LOT of toys.  We're constantly trying to purge, but it's an uphill battle in our home.  My tricks to a tidy playroom​:
  • Everything has a home.  When everything has a place, there's a least a snowball's chance in Hell the kids can put it away. 
  • Bins for everything.  I hate looking at clutter.  I try to hide toys behind cabinet doors and in baskets.
  • Everything alike lives together.  All our Golden Books are stacked together on a shelf.  All Match Box cars are in a bin.  Those lovely little misc. figures from Disney, Shopkins and Happy Meals toys are in a bin together.
Some things just can't/shouldn't be hidden away.  We have several book cases and magazine racks that show off our book collection.  These are some awesome storage options to keep the playroom looking modern and fun.

Our art cart is awesome!  You may have noticed it out of the playroom in the kitchen when I wrote my quarantine hacks blog.  Since the sturdy little metal cart is on wheels, it's easy to move from room to room.  Arts and crafts are HUGE in our house.  My kids will make dozens of creations a day and bring them home from school.  To manage all that paper, I have an "art gallery" in the playroom (see photo above).  The "Every child is an artist" decal, https://amzn.to/2Z6c8VQ, and gallery style display wire, https://amzn.to/2OglnwN, make a great accent wall in the playroom.  After art bonanza concludes and clean up commences, the kids pick their favorite creations to be put on display (and occasionally I pick a couple as well).  Then every day or two, we clear it off to make room for their latest treasures.  Check out my other Organize My Life blogs on managing all that paper for tips on keeping the clutter at bay.  
To keep the playroom gender neutral (since I have a son and daughter), I opted for a bright color palette and couldn't resist rainbow storage bins, https://amzn.to/31UT0w8. These open bins are a great way for the kids to "put away" toys that belong in cabinets too high for them to safely access.  Also, the portable size makes it easy for the kids to tote them to their table for playtime.  I wish our kids' table was against at wall; check out this adorable Mason jar wall storage, https://amzn.to/31UPTnW -- looks like a great way to sort out Legos or store art supplies.
